A coffee brown kora silk saree handwoven in Varanasi, the body scattered with round floral butis in sona-rupa gold and silver zari, each lit with fine red meena dots. The saree is finished with a kadiyal border — a broad gold-zari pallu and border woven in contrast to the body, patterned with peacock and floral detailing. Worked in kadwa, each buti is individually woven into the cloth. At the same time, the kadiyal technique interlocks the contrasting border directly into the weave rather than attaching it separately — among the most skilled of Banarasi methods. The warm brown ground and gold-silver work make for a rich, unusual palette. Suited to weddings, festive gatherings and celebrations — pairs well with emerald, jade or turquoise jewellery.
A mood, an occasion, a feeling, matched to real, wearable pieces from independent Indian brands.
