A lime green sateen silk kaftan in our Turkish Karanfil print — an all-over carnation motif drawn from the decorative arts of the Ottoman court. Pink blooms and turquoise leaves scatter across a bright lime ground, the V-neck drawing in at the waist with a tie finished in a gold-disc and tassel latkan, and contrast pink tassels weighting the hem. The Karanfil (carnation) is one of the great motifs of Ottoman design — developed by the court artists known as Nakkaş from the thirteenth century and at its height in the sixteenth, it appeared across fabrics, ceramics, carpets and miniatures, prized for its detail and grace. Printed here on soft-lustre sateen silk, the motif carries that heritage into an easy, fluid kaftan. Suited to resort evenings, mehndi and haldi mornings, brunches and festive at-homes — wear loose or drawn in at the waist.
A mood, an occasion, a feeling, matched to real, wearable pieces from independent Indian brands.
