A mustard yellow Banarasi saree in pure katan silk, carrying an Aada Jangla — scrolling vines and florals running across the body in continuous rhythm. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari — the border runs the length of the drape with a steady, unbroken rhythm. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom. A Jangla is one of the most demanding Banarasi compositions to weave well: the vines have to climb continuously through the body of the saree, with no break in the rhythm where the cartoon repeats. Holding that continuity over five and a half metres is the discipline at the heart of the weave — and it is what gives a Jangla piece its sense of being a single, unbroken textile rather than a sequence of motifs. Styling Note A Nivi drape carries this composition best — the pallu placed long over the shoulder so the border reads in full down the front. Pair with polki, kundan or antique gold jewellery to echo the zari, and a tonal mustard raw silk or contrast maroon tissue blouse to keep the focus on the weave.
