Rangkat is the Banarasi weaver's art of two colours in one fabric. The powder blue warp and ivory tissue weft cross at every thread, creating a ground that shifts between cool blue and warm gold depending on the light and the angle of the drape. Neither colour dominates entirely. The fabric is always both at once. Across this shifting ground, scattered kadwa-woven meenakari parrot butis sit in orange, red, maroon, and gold silk. The warm palette of the birds reads with particular clarity against the cool powder blue ground, each one placed at intervals across the body. The pallu transition carries fine multicolour vertical stripes, a flash of colour before the border takes over. The border is wide gold zari with a dense phulwar bel and bird motifs, the avian vocabulary continuing from body to border in a single unbroken conversation.
