A cotton Banarasi saree in a soft, mineral grey, with Kadhua motifs placed thread by thread across the body and a Banarasi border framing the drape. Cotton carries the weave with a quieter sheen than silk, and the gold motifs read clearly against the muted ground. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari — set into the body of the cloth, with Dampaj used to lay the motifs into the cotton. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom. The motif placement here is deliberate; nothing is added on. The weaver works the figure into the textile thread by thread, building the composition row by row at the loom. That patience is the textile's luxury — and the reason a Banarasi like this is collected rather than consumed. Styling Note Drape Nivi-style for a clean, structured fall; cotton holds a crisp pleat. Pair with oxidised silver, antique-gold studs or kundan, and choose a blouse in dove grey, ivory or oxidised gold raw silk.
