A handwoven Banarasi Munga Silk saree in cobalt blue, with thread-by-thread Kadhua butti drawn over the full field of the drape. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari — the border carries a continuous pattern that frames the drape on every edge. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom. Kadhua is among the most patient of Banarasi techniques — each motif is built into the cloth with its own weft, never embroidered on after. The weaver carries dozens of small shuttles across a single pick, switching between them as the design demands. A single saree of this kind can take weeks at the pit loom, and the patience required is precisely what gives Banarasi its weight and its glow. Styling Note A Nivi drape carries this composition best — the pallu placed long over the shoulder so the border reads in full down the front. Pair with antique gold or temple jewellery to echo the zari, and a tonal blue raw silk or ivory tissue blouse to keep the focus on the weave.
