A pure Katan silk Banarasi saree in deep bottle green, carrying Kairy paisley motifs across the body and a Kuniya corner-motif placed at the anchal. The border frames the drape with the Kairy rhythm carried through. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari — including the paisley figures and the corner work at the anchal. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom. What distinguishes Kadhua from simpler Banarasi techniques is that no thread is ever cut behind the motif — each butti finishes within itself. That cleanness on the reverse is the hallmark of a true Kadhua, and the reason the weaving takes weeks rather than days. Styling Note Drape Nivi or Bengali; the deep green pairs beautifully with antique-gold, temple or kundan jewellery. A blouse in mossy green, ivory raw silk or oxidised gold tissue keeps the focus on the Kairy work.
